Usage and Maintenance

Daj Daj Diapers are made of 100% bamboo fiber, which we chose for its resistance to bacteria and fungi. Bamboo fiber is more absorbent than cotton and leaves the skin dry faster. It also reduces odors and is suitable for allergy-prone children.
Before first use machine-wash the diapers at 40-60°C with 1/3 the usual amount of a mild detergent. Rinse twice and air dry after this first wash. Maximum absorption will be achieved after several more washes, once the bamboo terry loses all excess fibers accumulated during the diapers’ manufacturing. To speed up this process, soak the diapers overnight in lukewarm water and then machine-wash them.
Our Bamboo Fitted Diapers require the use of waterproof Diaper Covers, made of 100% polyester coated with polyurethane, which is leak-proof but breathable. The covers can be washed at 60°C (and can withstand washing temperatures up to 90°C), but are best washed at 40°C to extend their lifespan.

Storing Dirty Diapers

Cloth diapers actually ARE easy to maintain. Taking a dirty cloth diaper to the laundry bin requires no more effort than taking a used disposable to the trash, while the time you’d spend taking a bag full of garbage out to the dumpster equals the time required to dump the contents of a soiled diaper into the toilet. And you might be surprised to learn that a wetted diaper is nearly odorless.
Wetted diapers should immediately be placed in a lidded diaper bin. Rinsing them with water is optional. As mentioned previously, the contents of soiled diapers should be thrown into the toilet. Our paper diaper liners make this even easier, as they are flushable. If any feces remain on the diaper and/or its insert, rinse under a strong spray of water and store until laundry time. To ensure easier strain-removal, rinse soiled diapers as soon as possible. The diapers awaiting washing in your bin can be sprayed with a mild solution of tea tree oil, which has antibacterial properties. Occasionally wash and disinfect your diaper bin.

Washing and Drying

dajdaj pelene pranjeNew diapers require about 5 to 6 washes before they reach maximum absorption. Always wash with 1/3 the usual amount of detergent – we recommend liquid varieties as these rinses out more thoroughly. Avoid using too much detergent as it might not rinse out properly. Detergent residue in diapers may irritate you child’s skin and reduce the diapers’ product life. In addition, the combination of urine and detergent residue in diapers may create an odor and cause the fabric to stiffen.
Use environmentally-friendly detergents, free of phosphates, or plant-based products. If your baby’s skin becomes irritated your detergent might be the cause. Try switching brands or reducing the amount of detergent you use. The recommended washing temperature for all diapers is 40-60°C. This is high enough to kill all bacteria and ensure your diapers are clean, and is also better for the environment.
Do not use bleach or fabric softeners. Fabric softener drastically decreases the absorbency of the diaper fabric and may irritate your child’s skin. Any stains that appear on the diapers are a result of food pigments. They pose no harm to your child and will usually disappear after several washes. Drying Daj Daj Diapers in direct sunlight helps fade stains. You may wash the diapers at 90°C, but bear in mind that this may affect the fabric and elastic of the diapers.
In winter, hang-dry the diapers near a heat source. If machine-drying, use medium program, as for towels. Daj Daj Diapers do not require ironing. Daj Daj Diaper Covers may be washed along with diapers at 60°C, but a temperature of 40°C is recommended as this extends their lifespan.
